| Biomorphic Abstraction
NOVEMBER 19 to DECEMBER 23, 1998
The Curt Marcus Gallery is pleased to announce an upcoming exhibition of paintings, sculpture, and installation by contemporary artists working in the tradition of biomorphic abstraction. Artists included in the exhibition are: Kevin Larmon,
Carl Ostendarp, Ken Price, Paul Henry Ramirez, and Pae White.
This exhibition looks at work by contemporary artists who are continuing in the tradition of abstraction pursued by early 20th century artists such as Hans Arp, Joan Miro, and Yves Tanguy, to name a few. With reference to this tradition the gallery is including an exquisite biomorphic painting by Max Ernst, Figure humaine (Les oiseaux), circa 1933/34.
In Pae Whites installation, the distinctly feminine form of the Arne Jacobsen "Ant" chair is paired with Vera scarves on the floor, whose patterns are composed of discrete, figurative shapes. Paul Henry Ramirez has created a field of abstracted erotica in his site-specific installation of two canvases and wall painting. Also on view will be a large, iridescent sculpture by Ken Price and new paintings by Kevin Larmon and Carl Ostendarp.
